Get recognized for your leading-edge approach to tax management with Vertex solutions. Nominate your organization for Vertex's 2018 Innovation Awards by Friday, June 29.

The awards recognize companies that have developed innovative ways to leverage Vertex solutions in their tax department to overcome business challenges and drive improved results.

Top entries will be announced as winners in July and their winning solutions will be featured in communications and promotions prior to the Exchange conference.


Vote for your Peers

Attendees at Exchange will have an opportunity to vote for their favorite innovation. The "People's Choice" winner will be announced during Exchange, taking place from October 28 – 31 in Hollywood, Florida.


Attention Past Innovation Award Winners

Are you a past Innovation Award winner that has continued to innovate by using Vertex software to create additional benefits for other tax types or embarked on a new project using the technology to create a positive impact on the bottom line? Submit your project and you may be selected for a North Star Award to recognize your continued innovation!


All Winners Receive:

  • Complimentary registration for two (2) to Vertex Exchange 2018
  • Complimentary travel and hotel accommodations for two (2) registered attendees
  • A crystal award in the company’s name recognizing their achievement
  • Recognition at Vertex Exchange in front of industry peers, and in all Vertex communications regarding the awards program, including media releases
  • An opportunity to present a session on the award-winning project


How to Enter

Complete and submit the Vertex Innovation Awards Nomination Form by June 29, 2018. Winners will be notified in July.

Complete and qualified entries will be eligible to receive a $25 American Express Gift Card.

Entries must be completed in their entirety and meet the following eligibility requirements. Gift cards are limited and distributed on a first come, first serve basis. Names of entries not selected will be kept in strict confidence.


Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility to participate in the Vertex 2018 Innovation Awards program is limited to current Vertex customers and the nominated solution must be fully implemented at the time of submission. Nominations will be judged based on the following criteria:

  • Innovation - The ability to demonstrate improvement over previous business operations using the technology to deliver recognizable, measurable and valuable results - providing true business benefit to the organization.
  • Uniqueness - The solution implements a creative and unique “big idea.”
  • Alignment - The program, process, or technology nominated supports overall organizational goals.
  • Adaptation - The potential for the solution to translate into “best practices” application that can be adopted by other organizations.
  • Cost effectiveness - The ability of the solution to maximize resources and provide scalability and cost savings.

2017 Innovation Award Winners

The 2017 Vertex Innovation Awards recognized six companies that have leveraged software and services from Vertex to solve complex business challenges: AmeriGas; Duracell; Espresso Services; L.L. Bean; Microsoft; and Northern Tool + Equipment.

New in 2017, we recognized two past Innovation Award winners with the Vertex North Star Award. These past winners continued to innovate by using Vertex software to create additional benefits for other tax types or embarked on a new project using the technology to create a positive impact on the bottom line. L.L.Bean has been providing active gear, apparel, and expert advice to help customers enjoy the outdoors for over 100 years. Founded in 1912 by Leon Leonwood Bean, the company began as a one-man operation. Guided by L.L.’s belief in keeping customers satisfied, the company has grown to a global organization with annual sales of $1.6 billion. Company headquarters are in Freeport, Maine, just down the road from its original store.

Innovation at Work

L.L.Bean was in the midst of a major, multi-year business transformation. Among the key goals: enabling more efficient and standardized work processes across the company while significantly reducing the number of applications its internal IT group must maintain. As part of the transformation, the company migrated a complex network of legacy tax systems to Vertex O Series as its single tax solution.

L.L.Bean is already seeing direct benefits from its investment in Vertex. Customer experience is better thanks to stronger integration across source systems and more consistent tax results. IT no longer needs to maintain a patchwork of legacy systems. Managing monthly compliance has not only enhanced accuracy but eliminated time-consuming manual work giving the tax team more capacity for higher-value activities. Today, the tax team has greater agility in responding to ongoing tax rule changes in every channel of their business.

Ultimately, Vertex O Series has enabled the tax team to lay the groundwork for better tax audit results which is expected to contribute significantly to the company’s bottom line, reduce IT support needs by 35-50%, reduce monthly compliance efforts by 25%, and reduce the number of tax-exempt orders on hold for review.
